Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) and Equine Facilitated Team Building (EFTB)

Equine facilitated psychotherapy (EFP) is an alternative treatment strategy that can be helpful for those who do not find benefits from the traditional therapy. At GD Psych Services, we pride ourselves in thinking outside of the box and coming providing interventions for everyone. GD Psych Services has a collaborative relationship with Loving Thunder to provide EFP. Such a relationship has allowed our team of trained EFP providers to offer EFP in a safe and fun equine environment to clients with various mental health needs.

EFP is experiential therapy that incorporates horses, it is goal-directed, serves specific functions within treatment plans, symbolically recreates life situations, allows self-problem solving, provides practice of experientially new ways of being, incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapies and Solution-Focused Therapy, and uses metaphors. EFP is also insight-oriented and is compatible with psychodynamic, cognitive, experiential, behavioral, constructivist, and systematic paradigms. EFP is appropriate for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

Cost: EFP is covered by insurance if applicable, but there is a separate ranch fee. If the client has a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or is a disabled veteran, the ranch fee is covered by Loving Thunder.

In addition to EFP, GD Psych Services provides team-building services for companies (small and large) that incorporates horses. Team building exercises with equines allows for a variety of focuses, to include trust, leadership, and communication to name a few. Team building can be offered as part of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) package or can be purchased separately. All Equine team building can be tailored to the needs of the client.
