Mental Health Specific Training (MHST)
for Security Staff

The Mental Health Specific Training (MHST) for Security staff is presented by various GD Psych Services Licensed Mental Health Counselors and Psychologists to target the specific knowledge areas of mental illness a Security Officer (SO) may face on the job to reduce safety risk.

Knowing such information provides Security staff the tools to recognize low, moderate, and high-risk situations and to determine the best approach given the nature of the situation and mental presentation of the individual. The presentation is inclusive of a course pre-and post-test to measure knowledge gained. Topics covered include: Mental Health Facts, Serious Mental Illness including psychosis, Personality Disorders, Suicide Risk and Risk Management, De-Escalation, and Altered Mental Status.
